With the ZipShot tripod, you can travel light, set up fast and take pictures that require a tripod. Most tripods are heavy, difficult to carry, and slow to set up. This causes many missed photo opportunities. The ZipShot tripod is the answer. At only 11 oz (312g) and 15" (38cm) when folded, it is ultra-lightweight and ultra-compact. Easily carried, it attaches to the handle of a camera bag, backpack, or travel bag, and is also compact enough to be slipped into a purse or luggage. Release the shock cords and the ZipShot's™ legs spring open in seconds to a height of 44" (112cm). The camera can be positioned at any angle so vertical and horizontal shots are easy. Designed for a DSLR camera and lens up to 3 lbs. (1361g), all point-and-shoot cameras, and compact camcorders. The ZipShot is constructed of sturdy, high-quality aluminum.

I purchased this the moment I saw it. I wanted to be hesitant because of the price, but figured if it does what it claims, it's perfect for what I want it for. I have a manfrotto compact tripod that folds to just a bit longer than my camera bag. It's got a pistol grip and doesn't weigh too much. I rarely used it because it ended up being a pain to set up and take down and boy does gear get heavy when you drag it all around. I will use the manfrotto for certain outings when I need to have a more steady support for my camera. The day I got my Zipshot I opened the package and let the Zipshot out! It was spectacular.
Cons: you have to manually screw in the camera each time, no adjustable height.
Pros: Everything else. Yes, I've put my Nikon D5000 on it and it was steady as could be. If you use it properly it really will hold that small dslr. This week I used it at a school event to video the performance. It's so light that you really don't notice that you're carrying it. I've got mine attached to the handle on my camera bag. out of the way but ready to use at a moments notice.
The only thing I'd change on this would be to have a quick release. Don't listen to the first reviewer- I've inspected my cords and let several people check out the Zipshot. Everyone was impressed at how sturdy it was when it was set up correctly.

I've owned this tripod over a month and I've taken it outdoors a few times. This tripod is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for what it sets out to achieve - a lightweight and handy tripod for trips, hiking, etc. I also own a Manfrotto 785 I bought for the same purpose. It's a nice tripod, but I have a feeling I might be putting it on Craigslist soon!
The Zipshot is plenty stable for a LX3, G11, or even a super-zoom. In my opinion, this is not made for a DSLR even though it is solid enough to hold one. I would just be scared of knocking it over since the tripod hardly weighs anything and it would be very top-heavy. For that purpose, investing in a nice carbon fiber unit would be best. This tripod literally sets up in under 5 seconds, and folds up almost as quickly. The ball head is solid aluminum and grips very well. The legs are very stable if spread out correctly. One prior review mentioned this tripod had fiberglass poles. Well, the poles are made of aluminum, and are very solid. It's not likely that person has owned one or even seen one.
Like the Joby Gorillapod, this tripod fills a specialized niche. If you understand and accept the dedicated and limited functionality this tripod is made for, there is simply nothing else that even comes close to it!

| Unlike the first reviewer who has never tried the product and gave it low rating, I have been using one for 10 days and it's an amazing invention. First of all it's incredibly well made; it's mostly all metal with aluminum shafts and a cast aluminum ball head. It weights just 10.75 ounces and is less than a foot long. The magic occurs when the red ties that hold the tripod closed are unhooked. Then just hold the ball head and the legs assemble themselves in about one second. You are then holding a very sturdy tripod as the legs interlock and show a minimal of flexing. I put a Pentax K-7 with a standard zoom lens on it and it worked very well. The tripod held the camera in place and allowed fine adjustment. This is the first tripod that can be taken with you, yet has most of the features of a full size keyboard. |
Fantastic Tool

| Every design is a compromise;strength/weight/size.This tripod is compact,it is light weight. No,it is not the most rigid of tripods but if you are using a tripod of any sort you should be using at least the timer and mirror lock-up if your camera has one.If you work within the limitations of this tripod it is an amazing bit of kit. |

For what it was designed for this tripod is fantastic. A friend showed me his monopod/tripod/walking stick and while I liked it initially I decided against it because it was expensive and not height adjustable for packing in small carry-in luggage. I accidentally stumbled across Tamrac ZipShot tripod while surfing Amazon and am I glad I bought it.
Though not height adjustable or come with quick release, this tripod make up for that deficiency with its very lightweight, easy to set up and take-down process and small space for packing.
I found the tripod more than adequate for my Panasonic FZ35 zoom camera in flat ground setup. Of course, because the legs are not individually adjustable in height you have to be very careful (if you dare) to try taking photos in steep hilly area.
