I seldom write reviews, but this monitor is being unfairly trashed and I can't resist...
I spent a lot of time selecting this monitor in Dec 2009. I needed to expand my notebook's desktop so I could see a bunch of eye busting text and graphics all at once. I am a semi-retired techno-savvy software industry vet. And, I am cheap. So I actually first tried a $140 22 inch 1680x1050 AOC monitor. I also looked at a lot of competing products in the under $200 category, including refurbished and open box units. In the end I returned the AOC and decided to buy this value-focused model from a vendor I trust. I have no regrets. None.
I have used the Viewsonic VA2323wm heavily for a solid month, grinding away at computer source code and fussy graphics. I am very happy with the image quality. This monitor is totally well behaved. Quiet (some LCDs aren't, but you won't notice it until you are working in the middle of the night). Simple design. Nice narrow bezel with matt finish. Nice little buttons, right where you need them. Actually, you may never need to touch them because it turns itself on and off automatically (I did use them once - to turn down the brightness). For my application the unit is perfect. I would tell you if anything was wrong. Honest!!
Bottom line: Solid value from a trusted vendor. Buy and Enjoy
For what it is worth, here are my comments on what other folks wrote:
I think the person with the old Dell is unfairly blaming Viewsonic. The Dell probably can't put out a good signal at 1920x1080 pix, or is running at a lower resolution. In my experience, LCD monitors really don't look good at any resolutions other than their rated max.
If you have an old computer, it is a good idea to check if your computer can deliver 1920x1080 pix. This can be difficult to do. For my 4 year old Gateway I had to go to Intel's chipset site and it was ugly, and I still wasn't sure. In reality, the only way to know for sure was to plug it in. I am lucky that my old notebook drives this monitor well. It sounds like the Dell user was not so lucky.
I agree that the 16x9 ratio is an adjustment. But if you want more pixels (which I did), it makes sense to spread them out horizontally. I wanted to see the full content of two typical web pages side by side. This 16x9 1920x1080 pixel monitor does a way better job than the 16x10 1680x1050 display I tried first.
Regarding height adjustment, you won't find it on a monitor in this price range.
Personally, I don't see the lack of a DVI cord as an issue. A DVI cord is only $10. Is this worth a star?
Most people with older equipment (like me) are still using VGA. The included VGA cord saved me scrounging around in the basement for one of the many VGA cords I have discarded over the years.
You might be concerned that this monitor does not have HDMI. I plan to skip DVI and go to HDMI next. I stopped worrying about it when I found out that a HDMI to DVI adapter costs $10.
Yes, the install disk has glitches on XP. But don't waste you time with the disk. The driver download from viewsonic.com is flawless.
HINT: Always download the latest drivers, unless you are somewhere with no access to the net. When you use a disk you risk wasting time experiencing a bug that has been fixed since your box left the factory.
I don't use the speakers. But just for yucks, I plugged them in. It is true, they are really bad. You could use them in a pinch, like for system sounds. But honestly, folks, looking for good speakers on a monitor is like, well, looking for teats on a boar hog.
Buy and Enjoy! |

I've owned several viewsonic monitors over the years and always liked them. This gorgeous new 23 inch widescreen 1080p monitor with speakers replaces a slightly older 20 inch viewsonic that I really liked.
I'm not sure what all to say about this. The 1080p picture is full HD of course. It was easy to set up, it has inputs for both DVI and older VGA cables.
The picture quality is great, nice color, good sharpness.
On screen controls are easy to use.
And I'm not an audiophile or into expensive sound systems, so the built in speakers are just what I need.
The physical characteristics of the monitor are nice too. The stand pops into place easily, the inputs are easy to reach and connect, and the stand has an easy-to-use tilt mechanism.
I can't think of a thing not to like about this. |

I've not reviewed a product before, but I had to add my praise to that of others, to offset the neutral and negative reviews. This monitor is absolutely beautiful.
I needed, and love, the widescreen format for my particular use: I'm learning and using a 3D drafting program (SolidWorks) and the widescreen lets me work easily with the built-in tutorials. The lessons appear in the right 1/3 or so of the screen, and I still have plenty of room to work in the remaining window. Beyond the tutorials, SolidWorks and other graphic design programs are menu intensive, and it's great to have plenty of room for toolbars and still have a roomy drawing area.
Look, this is a huge monitor for about 1/20 the price it would have been just a few years ago. I paid 178 on Amazon (Costco wanted 190,) and the next day it was down to 170. That's no tax, no shipping, and a 3 year warranty. Unbelievable. But price aside, like the title of my review says, it's flawless, period. The whiners and the unimpressed baffle me. I seriously think their issues are NOT with this monitor. OK, maybe I agree that the power on light is a little overly bright, so maybe my title should be "99.5% flawless."
Now, one other thing: I did pair this with a pretty old computer and I was experiencing some resolution problems the first day. I called tech support at the toll free number on Viewsonic's website, at about 9 p.m. west coast time (that's midnight EST) and after going through 15 seconds of voice menu selections I was connected immediately with a live person who walked me through the issue very professionally. It turned out that I had a video card driver from 2003, and it wasn't quite compatible with the Viewsonic driver. I updated that and voila, perfect. This is the best customer support I've had from a manufacturer in a very, very long time.
You're on the page, so you're obviously shopping monitors. Stop wasting time. Just buy this. |

| I purchased this monitor to replace a 19" Gateway HD monitor and I have no regrets. The Gateway didn't have built-in speakers and costed me more than this Viewsonic. I had a Viewsonic several years ago and it was a nice monitor. Sold it to a co-worker when I got the Gateway and she's still using it today. Just sold her the Gateway monitor too when I got my 23" Viewsonic. The speakers aren't the greatest quality, but I don't use my computer to listen to music or watch DVD's. I don't know what the other reviewer was referring to when she said the print was too small to read. On a 23" monitor, there is no small print, at least I haven't found any. Maybe she needs to adjust her font size not the screen resolution. Picture quality is great and I love the matte finish which helps reduce glare. I would recommend this monitor to anyone looking for a reasonably priced quality product. |

I got this as a auxiliary monitor for my laptop.
The setup was a breeze and the color / sharpness is very good. Literally I unboxed it, plugged it in, went through a quick set-up process and there it was. The default OSD settings are pretty spot on. Later I went through a very detailed setup wizard for HD monitors on the Internet and found I only had to tweak the default values.
The price point of the 23" is just right. I really wanted the 24" - but to get the Prime shipping, I would have had to wait 1-3 months. But really, this monitor actually ended out working very well for what I needed.
Excellent purchase. |
